Welcome to the Pioneers page

Welcome to Reception’s class page!

Welcome to our Reception class page. We are called the Pioneers and we love to experiment, create and adapt. We are the pioneers of our future!

Snack: We ask for a contribution of 50p per week to enable us to provide additional exciting and tasty snacks.

Clothes: Our learning can get messy! Please provide a spare set of clothes in case we need to get changed.

Make sure you keep an eye on Tapestry as we post regular observations and updates about our adventures. We love receiving observations from home so please feel free to share pictures and notes via your child’s account. If you need any help with tapestry, please see your child’s teacher.

P.E: We have PE every Tuesday. Please ensure PE kits are kept in school until half term and that earrings are left out or you provide your child with plasters on these days.

Reading: We ask that Reception children read every night for five minutes with adults initialling reading diaries in order for the children to be awarded dojo points and rewards.

We enjoyed performing

our Nativity production

Christmas Dinner

We have had our first whole school Christmas dinner this week. It was so much fun! Everybody was in the hall singing along to Christmas songs and pulling crackers. We all wore our Christmas jumpers and ate our yummy dinners.

The Fire Engine

We have had Mr Singh come and visit us in school. His family own the shop over the road and he came to speak to us about Sikhism. We listened very carefully whilst he told us about his religion and he even showed us some special belongings that he wears as part of his religion.

We read Superworm and decided that we wanted to find out more about worms. We used the iPads to do some research and found out lots of very interesting facts. We found out that worms breathe through their skin and they wriggle underground to cool down.

We have been exploring 2d and 3d shapes. We used the different containers that we find around the house to build castles. We used the language of faces, sides and corners.

Katie the dentist came to see us

We had Katie the dentist come in to visit us and talk about keeping our teeth healthy. She told us that we had to brush them twice a day and not to rinse after we have brushed, so we don’t wash off the fluoride. We then got some toothpaste to take home to look after our teeth.

A Police Visit

This week we have had two very special visitors in our class…. the police! They came to speak to us about how they help in our community and what they do day to day. They spoke to use about how they can help us if we are ever worried and they even let us try their jackets on.

To celebrate Diwali; the Hindu festival of light we made our own diva lamps out of clay.

Remembrance Day

For remembrance day we created poppy stamp pictures.

Bonfire Night

To celebrate Bonfire night, the children read a story about Guy Fawkes and the Great Gunpowder Plot. They then went on a hunt around our outdoor area looking for clues about why we celebrate bonfire night.

The Pioneers have been to the computer suite and worked together in pairs to create a picture. They had to take it in turns to place different things on their picture and discuss what they wanted and why, with their partner.

Open Morning

This week we have invited our parents in for open morning. We had such a fantastic time showing our grown-ups around our classroom and playing in all the different areas. We loved getting out our learning journeys and showing them all of our achievements so far. We can’t wait to have them back!

We loved showing our parents

what we do in school

Leaf Man

In Pioneers we have been reading ‘Leaf Man’. We decided to go on our very own leaf man adventure through the fields, past the orchards and around the trim trail. On the way we collected lots of fabulous leaves of all shapes, colours and sizes. When we got back to class we created our very own leaf man. Well done Pioneers!

As part of our ‘Autumn’ topic we have been on a treasure hunt looking for special autumnal treasures. We collected lots of different things from spiky leaves to smooth nuts. When we got back to class we created animal pictures. We positioned the objects around on the paper and then when were happy we used the glue to stick them down.

We love Autumn

there are so many things to find

This week in maths the ‘King of Shape’ left us a letter asking for our help; to find his shapes. We used our maps to find the shapes all around our outdoor area and name them.

All About Me

For our All About Me topic the children have been looking at their similarities and differences. We know that we all have two eyes, a mouth and a nose but not all of us have brown hair, not all of us are girls and we are all different heights. We have been celebrating our differences and are all happy to be individuals.

Here we are enjoying our lunches

Roald Dahl Day

For Roald Dahl day we went on a listening walk. We put on our BFG ears and silently walked around our playground listening to all the different sounds. We heard cars, birds, rustling of leaves and pattering of feet.

Our first week

We have settled really well into Reception and are having a ball. We now know the names of all our areas and are very good at accessing all of our provision. We have been learning all our friend’s names and getting to know them. We have even had dinner in the big hall and were absolute superstars. Well done Pioneers!

It has been great fun

finding out about our class
