Welcome to Year Four

Welcome to Year 4!

PE is on Tuesday and Thursday, so please ensure your PE kit is in school on these days.

Please ensure that you are reading at home regularly and bring your books in each day. We will aim to read with every child in the class each week, so it is important that books come back to school every day.

In English, we are currently learning about reports. We have been looking at TV news reports and newspapers. We will be writing our own Newspaper report about the Sutton Hoo discovery.

In History, we have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons and what was important to them. We have been learning about the Anglo-Saxon Gods, as well as what life was like after many of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms converted to Christianity! We will finish our Anglo-Saxons topic by learning about the discovery at Sutton Hoo, which was one of the greatest archaeological finds in Anglo-Saxon history.

In Design and Technology, we will be learning about seasonal food and creating our own seasonal dish.

Science will focus on the states of matter (solids, liquids and gases), we will be looking at The Water Cycle as part of this topic.

Finally, we will continue our focus on reading, with a variety of activities planned in both English and in our guided reading sessions.

Year 3 and 4 football

A huge well done to our Year 3 and 4 football team who recently took part in their local football tournament.

There were a few nail-biting games and some nerve-wracking penalties, however Hillside were triumphant and finished in second place!

Here are some of the Year 4 children who took part, proudly displaying their medals and being interviewed by their classmates as part of our English study of reports.

Well done!

Science

In science this term, we have been exploring States of Matter.

We have sorted different materials into groups, based on whether we thought they were a Solid, Liquid or Gas.

Music

In Music, we have each been given our Cornets and Trumpets.

We are really enjoying our Brass lessons, and so far we have learned how to play C, D and E notes.

We are improving each week and becoming more confident, especially when performing in front of one another.

DT

In Design and Technology, we have been learning about seasonal foods and what seasonality is.

We have been learning about where our food comes from and thinking about when certain foods are in season.

We researched a recipe for a seasonal dish and decided to make a delicious Autumn soup.

We tasted different seasonal foods that we might want to include in our soup, including cabbage, carrot and parsnip!

Some of us were not so sure about cabbage…

We investigated what seasonal ingredients we could use, how we would make it and what we could serve our dish with.

We all took home a tub of delicious homemade soup!
