Meet the Teacher

I am Mrs Simpson and I teach in Year 1 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I have been a teacher for 25 years and 6 of those years I have been at Hillside. I have previously taught in Nursery here at Hillside, before becoming the Year 1 teacher this year.  I have a Sports Studies degree and an Early Years PGCE.

I am a passionate teacher who loves to see, encourage and support  all children to succeed. My classroom is a nurturing environment and the children are encouraged to be curious, confident and independent learners. Strong relationships are key within the classroom both with staff and the children. I aim to inspire a love of reading, writing and mathematics and discovery across all areas of the curriculum. I am passionate about the need for movment as a vital tool to support and strengthen each childs ability for success.

When I am not at Hillside I love being at home with my husband and two boys. We love the outdoors and we are a very active family, playing many sports and exploring new places, in all weathers! At the weekend you will often find me at the side of a rugby pitch, a football pitch or in the Summer, on the cricket boundary. I am a keen runner and I am part of a number of local running clubs, taking part in running events throughout the year. I am even in the ballot for the London Marathon 2027!

I am Miss Brew-Butler and I teach in Year 1 on  Monday and Tuesday  and then on a Thursday and Friday I teach in Year 2.  I have taught at Hillside for 9 years now; from Reception to Year 2. I have an Early Childhood studies degree and an  Early Years PGCE and I am passionate about how children learn and thrive and I love being a part of their journey as they flourish.

Year 1 is a very exciting time for children as they enter Key Stage 1. We are very lucky at Hillside Community Primary School, as we have the most amazing Year 1 classroom where the children have access to continuous provision all year round. I believe this play opportunity is crucial for children in order to enanble them to transition smoothly by promoting independence, confidence and inclusivity.

When I am not in school I love being at home with my partner, three children and my cat- Eugene. We love exploring new parks and spend lots of time at Formby Woods. I also love spending time with friends and family getting together and having barbecues.  I also love watching a Netflix series and getting stuck into a thriller on my Kindle.
