Meet the Teacher
Hello and welcome! We are Mrs Gaskell and Miss Brew-Butler, the Year 2 teaching team. We are delighted to be supporting your child during this important and exciting stage of their primary school journey.
I am Mrs Gaskell and I teach in Year 2 from Monday to Wednesday. I have been part of the Skelmersdale community for almost ten years. I am passionate about building strong relationships with families and helping every child feel confident and supported in their learning. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my two young children and our much-loved dog, Ruby. We particularly enjoy camping, paddleboarding and countryside walks during the warmer months.
Year 2 is a significant year as it marks the final stage of Key Stage 1. Throughout the year, children will continue to develop their skills in reading, writing and mathematics, while also exploring a range of engaging topics across the wider curriculum. We aim to provide a nurturing, stimulating environment where every child can thrive, grow in confidence and develop a love of learning.
We look forward to working closely with you to ensure your child has a happy and successful year.
I am Miss Brew-Butler and I teach in Year 2 on Thursday and Friday and then on a Monday and Tuesday I teach in Year 1. I have taught at Hillside for 9 years now; from Reception to Year 2. I have an Early Childhood studies degree and an Early Years PGCE and I am passionate about how children learn and thrive and love being a part of their journey as they flourish.
When I am not in school I love being at home with my partner, three children and my cat- Eugene. We love exploring new parks and spend lots of time at Formby Woods. I also love spending time with friends and family getting together and having barbecues. I also love watching a Netflix series and getting stuck into a thriller on my Kindle.
Year 2 is an exciting year where children become a lot more independent in their learning, in readiness for their next chapter in Year 3. They study topics such as 'Great Explorers' and 'Kisumu' and it is wonderful to see them become fully immersed in their learning.
