At Hillside, we want our children to know more, remember more and understand more in History and we do this by inspiring a curiosity to discover more about the past, how it has shaped our present and its impact on our future. Our curriculum has clear progression and ensures that pupils learn the substantive knowledge required to connect prior learning with new, as well as the disciplinary knowledge which leads to children connecting learning between subjects. The curriculum brings History ‘alive’ by immersing children in realistic experiences both in school and on visits and by using a range of historical evidence.
The children learn about significant events and individuals in Global, British and Local History and appreciate how things have changed over time. Children develop a sense of chronology and are encouraged to think and talk like Historians by showing that they can build upon key skills and understand historical concepts.
